| Revenue Division > Introduction | Chatrel and Identity Unit | Fund Raising | a) His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Charitable Trust His Holiness the Dalai Lama after seeking refuge in India 1959, established Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) to resettle and educate the new refugees escaping from Tibet into India. The then Government in Tibet was able to sent some gold into India which was sold to cover the expenses for the administration on CTA and for the welfare and resettlement of refugees. His Holiness the Dalai Lama Charitable Trust was established and registered as a Trust under the Indian law to manage the fund generated from the gold. Under this Trust various fund-generating activities were implemented in order to solve the livelihood problem of the people through opening various Industries & business units, providing the new refugees with training and employing them in various business units. According to the economic policy of the 12th Kashag all the business units that falls under the Trust were privatized. For the benefit of CTA Budget the Finance Department has established a Corpus Fund under the Trust. Every year the Finance Department organizes different fundraising activities, to raise fund for the Corpus. All the Interest received annually from the safe fixed deposit in the Indian Banks is benefiting the annual budget of CTA. In the Financial year 2006-07 the trust has contributed 75lakhs as interest to the CTA Budget. b) Tibetan Administration Welfare Society. Tibetan Government in Exile has to work within the framework of financial regulation of Government of India and with the amendment of various rules and regulations for the utilization management of funds in India, CTA has to work accordingly. It therefore established Tibetan Administration Welfare Society (TAWS) and registered under the Societies registration Act in the year 1985. Under the unit various land, house dealings & business units were legally registered & operate under this registered body. According to the Economic Policy of the 12th Kashag all the business units, land & building under the TAWS were privatized. Presently TAWS is running a cooking gas supply unit for the welfare of the Tibetans, schools, NGOs in and around Dharamsala as no profit no loss service. Although this administration has no fund generating activities, it is still able to rupees 4 million each year for the CTA Budget in the financial year 2006-07 under various social and religious programs and projects. c) Blue Book Project or Tibetan Solidarity Alliance The Blue Book is patterned after the Tibetan Freedom Movements Green Book which is used by all Tibetan refugees to make voluntary annual contributions to support the Trust. The Green Book has been closely identified with Tibetan refugees for over three decades and is a symbol of their generosity and support. All contributions that you make with your Blue Book go directly to His Holiness the Dalai Lamas Charitable Trust (the Trust) to support the survival and preservation of the Tibetan people and their culture in exile. Contributors will be enrolled on The Blue Book roster once the Trust receives their initial contribution. Further, the Trust will acknowledge and validate every contribution made by sending a special Tibetan stamp for ones Blue Book. Each stamp has a Tibetan scene or motif that reflects the amount of contribution. Each year we are able to generate about 1.2 million rupees
each year from this project. |
